Welcome Letter
Maybe someone asks you: How are you doing?
Maybe you smile and say: I’m good!
Maybe you want to say: I’m lonely, I’m desperate, I’m ashamed, I’m exhausted, I’m sad and grieving, I’m bitter, I’m scared, I feel worthless.
These were the women we will be meeting this weekend.
Maybe this is you, too.
Welcome, this retreat is for you.
Over the next couple days, we will be studying six women who are woven into the beautiful tapestry of Jesus’ lineage. Five of these women are listed in Jesus’ genealogy in Matthew. We will be looking closely at the Bible, at the stories of these complicated and imperfect women, and how their inclusion in the genealogy carries so much meaning and points directly to the gospel. We hope to draw lines straight from these women’s lives to our own stories of grace, knitting us closer to God.
As we engage in deep study together, we hope to become more knitted as a community. Borrowing from our larger Kindred vision, we want to help each other find “belonging with God and one another through the gospel of Jesus Christ”. Our hope and aim will always be to point each other to Christ. As we share life together, the more belonging we will find and the more we will see Christ in others, knitting us closer to each other.
I am so excited to see what comes from our time together. I hope you are blessed and encouraged, but also challenged and convicted in ways only the gospel can bring about.
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
